Use-it

Use-it was founded in 1971 in Copenhagen. The city of Copenhagen was crowded with long-haired travelling hippies, and the first Sleep-in was born, providing them with a bed for the night for a affordable price. Along came an information desk with helpful young people, eager to give away free information and good ideas on what to do for globetrotters on a low budget. The founders of Use-it Rotterdam took the example of the Use-it Copenhagen and started their own information and service center in 1997. Since 1998 Use-it yearly publishes a budget guide for young people visiting Rotterdam, named Simply the Best. From 1997 till 2005 the Use-it desk was located at Conradstraat right next to Central Station. The location was known as Perron 0, which was crowded with a lot of drug addicts and other people you don't want to hang out with. In 2005 Use-it moved to the current location at Schaatsbaan 41-45, due to the reconstruction of the new train station. Since 2004 Use-it Rotterdam has had their own Sleep-in where young people can stay for just € 10.- a night (included breakfast). Sleep-in De Mafkees is open in July and August and offers 144 beds in two big dorms.
